Climate Crisis and Clean Energy

 Climate Crisis and Clean Energy

Do people think of what they do in the present and how will it affect for the future generations that are yet to come to the world? Do people in the present world care about each other and even about themselves? When watching how people act in the present world, I don’t think that people even know what they are doing and how it will affect the future generations of our country as well as in the world.
The climate crisis around the world is one of the main problems that we as humans face which is getting worst day by day. Climate crisis implies the changes in weather patterns around the world, which will adversely affect the human and animal lifestyles resulting in the loss of vegetation and sources of water ultimately leading to the death of organisms. This can also lead to extreme extinction of species due to loss of their habitats and the loss of vegetation.

The main reason behind this climate crisis is the global warming around the world. Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the atmosphere due to the release of different greenhouse gases such as Carbon dioxide, Methane, Nitrous Oxide, water vapor and fluorinated gases. This global warming leads to extreme changes in temperature which will lead to drastic changes in weather patterns. Since the 1880s the temperature has been rising by 0.08 degree Celsius (0.14-degree Fahrenheit) per decade but, from the year of 1981, it is considered to be as twice as the above-mentioned temperature that is +0.18 degree Celsius (+0.32-degree Fahrenheit) and increasing gradually in the present too. The California Dead Valley has recorded the highest ever temperature of 54.4 degree Celsius on 16th August 2020. Global warming can also lead to the melting of ice glaciers in the Arctic and Antarctic regions of the world leading to an average increase of the sea levels from about 0.13 inches (3.2 millimeters) annually. This has become a life threat to animals in the Arctic such as the penguins and the polar bears due to the loss of their habitats and also to human beings living in island countries like Maldives and Seychelles as it is said that those countries will be drowned in sea water due to the average rise in sea levels in the coming years ahead. Humans themselves are the main driving force behind this climate crisis in the world. They somehow try to fulfill their own needs without considering even about the environment.

The emission of above-mentioned greenhouse gases mainly takes place due to the activities of human beings. Specially, by the usage of fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel and burning of coal for power generation. These activities mainly involving in release of gases like Carbon dioxide to the atmosphere which are green house gases. Also, dumping of garbage in improper ways leads to the formation and the release of methane gas which is also known as a greenhouse gas. Deforestation and urbanization have also become one of the leading causes for the rise in global warming. Trees, through the process of photosynthesis, takes up Carbon dioxide and release Oxygen which is very much beneficial to humans as well as animals living on earth. But, due to deforestation, the density of tree in the world is gradually dropping rising the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Recently, due to the bush fires in the Amazon forest which is considered as the lungs of the world and as well as in Australia, a huge number of trees and wildlife were affected where we can realize how much this climate crisis can cause damage to our lives at present.

Usage of clean energy around the world can be the best solution to reduce the climate crisis. Clean energy is the sources of energy which are renewable and has zero emission rate of Carbon substances which can lead to global warming. At present, the world is on a new perspective of reducing carbon emitted sources of energy and moving onto clean energy usage. There are different types of clean energy which are becoming a trend in and around the world. They are,
Solar energy – sunlight is used as energy source
Wind power
Hydrothermal energy
Geothermal energy
Biomass energy and many more………….
As said before, the world is on a new trend in the usage of clean energy to reduce the destruction of the eco systems around the world. The world is on the verge of finding new innovations such as electric cars with zero carbon emission and the manufacturing of electricity using solar energy, hydrothermal energy as well as wind power. As a proud nation, Srilanka has also initiated different steps in the usage of clean energy. Recently, for the first time ever in Srilanka, a waste to power electricity generation plant was initiated which will not only be a solution to the garbage problems in Srilanka as well as it will help in the reduction of the emission of Methane to the atmosphere which will be a direct cause of global warming. Srilanka could also manufacture its first electric super car the VEGA which is renowned worldwide for its technology and as the first ever electric super car in all of South Asia. Srilanka has also initiated different steps in promoting solar energy and also had joined a wind power plant and several hydrothermal power plants like the Victoria and Randenigala projects to the national grid which had greatly reduced the use of coal in the generation of electricity.

As dutiful citizens, lets all get together and fulfill our responsibilities in making the world a brighter and a greener place to live in. Lets all heal the world to make this a better place for us as well as for our future generations to live in.
