IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES ), is a worldwide association focussed on sharing the latest advancements in the electrical power industry for the purpose of developing new systems and equipment and also for educating the members of the industry. The mission of PES is to be the leading provider of scientific and engineering information on electric power and energy for the betterment of society and the preferred professional development source for our members. It was approved by the IEEE PES governing board on 17 July 2003. By actively engaging in PES, there are many benefits for the members. Free subscription to PES award-winning 'Power & energy' magazine, a free digital subscription to 'Electrification' magazine, free membership in your local PES chapter, discount to technical tutorials are some of these. Special benefits are; our members can stay up-to-date on the latest advancements and get substantial benefits and opportunities in their careers. The society of PES mainly functions based on active members willing to volunteer their time and expertise toward the betterment of the society. When we talk about the history of the society, it goes back to about 1964. In July 1995, PES adopted a logo comprised of a globe with longitudinal and latitudinal lines and the letters PES prominently shown in the center of the globe. Across the top, the words POWER ENGINEERING SOCIETY were placed and across the bottom were the letters IEEE. Although this was the first logo of the PES, today it has changed. PES is a society with worldwide recognition which is under the controlling mother society of IEEE. It's easy to get PES membership when you are a member of IEEE.
