Climate crisis and clean energy
Climate crisis is the biggest natural environmental problem facing the worlds today and it simply refers to the environmental changes and their consequences. All elements of the environment such as sun, wind, earth, rain, snow, air, oceans, deserts and forests are natural elements that directly affect this ecological climate. Although the world has maintained its balance and existence with the help of natural factors, today it is all but collapsing due to the effects of human activities. This climate changes are affecting the whole world, humans, animals and nature alike. Climate change is responsible for all the natural disasters like desertification, wildfires, landslides, hurricanes, tsunamis, floods, droughts and glacier erosion we face today. Nature is being destroyed as human industrialization continues day by day due to the industrialization that started with the industrial revolution. Climate crisis is mainly related to global warming. This global warming simply means the gradual increase in the normal temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. Greenhouse effect is the retention of the earth’s atmosphere temperature by the gases in the earth’s atmosphere without allowing the sun’s radiation to escape again. Greenhouse effect is the process that helps maintain an optimal level of atmospheric temperature. This process is done with the help of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and fluorinated gases.
This greenhouse effect is an essential process for sustaining life on earth and it performs a number of important functions for the earth. This greenhouse gases helps to maintain a constant temperature on the Earth's surface. Prevent the earth from freezing and makes it a warmer and more habitable place. And also they block harmful radiations. If the harmful rays from the sun hit the earth directly, it can harm life on the earth. But these gases form a protective ring around the earth and prevent those harmful rays from reaching us. Although this is essential for the survival of life. The main problem today is global warming due to rising greenhouse gas levels. As the greenhouse gas level rises, the atmosphere warms and warms the globe by retaining more than the required temperature. As a result, there are many adverse consequences. Because nature is designed to be interconnected as one system, change in one aspect affects all other. Extreme heat can cause forests to catch fires and cause wildfires and destroy the biodiversity of the earth. Deforestation depletes the oxygen required for the respiration of organisms and disrupts the natural food production of plants. And it creates deserts. It also adversely affects the natural water cycle that operates on earth. Much of the earth is covered by oceans. So extreme heat causes more water to evaporate from these oceans and forming more clouds from condensation. These clouds can cause hurricanes as well as flooding due to heavy rainfall. On the other hand this heavy temperature causes glaciers and Snow Mountains to melt and sea level to rise. As a result, low – lying islands are being submerged. All the above adverse climate changes are due to human activities. Burning fossil fuel for electricity, heat, transportation, deforestation and irregular cultivation are some of the human activities that contribute to increase of greenhouse gases. As a result of these climate crisis even the seasonal patterns have changed.
By now many environmental organizations are currently working to address the current climate crisis. Most of the focus is on the use of clean energy sources. Clean energy also known as renewable energy. Clean energy means “endless energy of use”. We use natural resources as these energy sources. Currently the main sources of clean energy are wind energy, solar energy, hydro energy, tidal energy, geothermal energy and biomass energy. These energy sources do not emit any harmful emissions. Wind energy also known as wind power is used to generate electricity by using wind turbines which generate mechanical power. Solar energy is conversion of sun’s energy into thermal energy or electrical energy. The sun is arguably the largest source of energy we can get for free and the solar energy is the most environmentally friendly and plentiful renewable energy source currently available. Now the use of solar energy has become very popular. Solar-powered machines, even vehicles have been designed. Hydro energy is one of the most commercially established renewable energy source. A large reservoir may be used to create a controlled flow of water that will drive a turbine and generate electricity by erecting a dam or barrier. Tidal energy is another form of hydro energy that generating energy by turning a turbine twice a day using tidal waves. Geothermal energy is the natural heat beneath the earth’s surface. This energy is used to heat homes and generate electricity. Biomass energy is the energy derived from the conversion of plant fuels into electricity. Today this has become a cleaner, more efficient and less costly clean energy.
Those clean energy play a major role in reducing global warming. Many countries are becoming accustomed to using this energy as a measure to prevent extreme climate crises. I think that the best solution to the problem of fossil fuel burning is to use natural alternative, clean energy sources. All the above clean energy sources are naturally available. We can use them for home consumption on a small scale. No one can blame one person for this climate crisis. All the world’s benefactors in the world are, to a lesser extent, partners in that offense. Finally everyone must do their utmost to keep the world a better safe place, without allowing further changes in nature.
