Technology is defined as the scientific application of knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry. No doubt, we owe a big thanks to the technical goons of the world for the vast improvement they have made to mankind. It would be unacceptable to say that life has not been wonderful with the advent of technology and its constant improvement. But like everything else, even something so magnificent as technology has its disadvantages. With reasons not too far-fetched I fully agree that the faster technology develops, the more humans are degraded.
The rapid development of technology has an undeniable impact on employment. Human resources have become neglected. Day by day firms and companies replace human workers with machines thus indirectly resulting in an increase in unemployment. Of course every firm wants to be successful and maximize profits. What better way to do that than using technological machines which increase productivity? This might be the best for wealthy businessmen but the longer it continues, we will approach a time when human labor and skills will no longer be valued in the society. Slowly we will face a devastating mass unemployment.
Technology is killing the communication skills of people. The majority of the communication we do every day is done through social media. Important discussions are had through snaps and texting. The populace especially young people have lost the ability to talk effectively, read and understand body language and gestures. The world might be a global village connected effectively but we are also building generations of humans who will completely lack the ability and skill of effective face to face communication.
From the dawn of the technological era, there has been fears about the effects that these technological inventions will have on the human folk. Humans have embraced these inventions with open arms and kept their fingers crossed for whatever effects they may bring. The unimaginable and impossible have all been achieved through technology. Indeed we should consider the universe blessed. but what about the numerous negatives it has caused? Hundreds have had to lose their jobs because machines have all but taken over. Manpower and labor are constantly laid off. Uncountable psychological effects which spring up from the overuse of mobile devices. Students have become lazy and insufficient. Understanding these brutal effects does not make one an enemy of technology, it only makes us aware that as it continues to advance, we continue to degrade and lose our value.
Technology has reduced the self-sufficiency of humans. The internet is often regarded as one of the greatest gifts of modern technology. With just a few clicks on a smart device, one can access any information from any part of the world. This is definitely breathtaking and nothing less than intriguing. But like all things that are good, there is always a dangerous side to them. The internet has made people lazy especially the youths. Students no longer see the reason to pursue knowledge by reading substantial books because they believe that it is a waste of time. The quest to be knowledgeable is seen as a thing of the old. Some might even ask, “why spend hours reading a book when you can find the same information on the internet in a matter of minutes? “ The Power of critical thinking and cognitive assessment is slowly fading away. The availability of the internet is building a generation of lazy and incompetent humans.
People are connected now more than ever. Hats off to the brains behind social media. The connection is wonderful as we can converse with people continents away. Indeed it is something worth applauding, probably the best but social media has reduced the effectiveness of humans. People can be seen operating mobile phones everywhere ranging from School to workplaces. Social media is a big distraction to a lot of people. Some have become so addicted that it would take a miracle to salvage such individuals. Works are left undone, loved ones are left unattended to while long hours of the day and sadly night are spent on social media platforms. Even when works are eventually done, some people struggle with concentration. Lack of concentration is just one of the numerous psychological and physical effects of the overuse of technological devices. Medical effects are not left out. A typical example is digital eyestrain which occurs as a result of overexposure to digital screens and a lot more.
