Empowering Sri Lanka with 5G
Corona pandemic situation guides us to online working and online learning. Not only Sri Lankans but also all over the worldwide people tend to work and learn online. Because of online working, Network coverage has become an essential thing for Sri Lankans. Statistically, there were 31.80 million mobile connections in Sri Lanka in 2020. That means 31.80 million Sri Lankans use wireless mobile telecommunications technology.
Wireless mobile telecommunications technology works through an electromagnetic signal that is broadcast by an enabled device. Telecommunication technology turning a new chapter every 10 years by introducing a new generation of wireless mobile telecommunications technology since the early 1980s. 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G like various mobile network technology generations introduce by increasing more features and capabilities from generation to generation. 5G is the newest giant step in the telecommunication field.
5G otherwise 5th generation will bring unexpected network and service capabilities for end-users. It will give a better browsing experience for users. 5G gives integrity, high data rate, low latency, massive simultaneous connections like various kinds of features for us. And also 5G will give a solution for the challenging situations in the current 4G. The predicted 5G speed is up to 10Gbps. 5G technology will bring more benefits for industrial, agricultural, and commercial use cases because of 5G’s high capacity and minimal lag. 5G technology will be a reason for new massive inventions under the healthcare, agriculture, retail, transportation, logistics, and manufacturing industries.
5th Generation works a little bit differently rather than the other four generations. Marco cell towers, vast power outlays to transmit over long distances used to establish all 1G to 4G generations. It uses a combination of frequencies from multiple brands to maximize throughput. 5G will use a large number of much smaller microcells for millimeter-wave spectrum bands rather than using traditional macro cell towers the speedup the network coverage. Like vise new technology used for 5G.
UK, US, China, Germany, France, South Korea, and Japan are the leading countries for 5G innovation. Ericsson’s latest Mobility Report said that the number of 5G smartphone subscriptions will rise to 600 million worldwide at the end of 2021.
Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd and Dialog Axiata PLC are the leading telecommunication companies in Sri Lanka. Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd successfully showcased the 5G deployment over a Mobile network on 5th April 2019. And also Dialog Axiata PLC carried out the ground-breaking 5G technology capability trial with Technology Partners Ericsson and Huawei. Like vise starting ground step for the 5G deployment was kept on both companies. As we know both of these companies are competing with each other. This competition will help full for establish the 5G technology in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankans could be having a 5G experience in near future. IoT-based smart parking, real-time 4K video streaming like future technology applications will surpass Sri Lankan society.
Sri Lankan Healthcare, Business Services, and tourism-like fields massively grow because of the 5G technology’s speed. High-speed internet connection faster the data transfer in healthcare providers and it will affect to increase the number of patients which they give their service. It will be speeding up the diagnosis process and improve office efficiency. Because of the improving office efficiency, it will reduce administrative costs, and improves the quality of the service. In the Business field, they can get web and video conferences without any connection failure and also can collaborate with customers more effectively. It will affect get more foreign investment to Sri Lanka. Tourism also develops because of this technology. Not only these fields but also more than others fields develop because of the 5G. 5G will be massively affected by economic growth in Sri Lanka. Empowering Sri Lanka with 5G will be turned into a new chapter in an economy in Sri Lanka.
