Electric vehicles have been in the rise in the recent years. The main catalyst for this serge of electric vehicles is due to recently found vehicle manufacturer, Tesla. In this article I will analyse the importance of the vehicle manufacturer company, Tesla.
Tesla was found in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning as a fully electric vehicle manufacturing company. Later Elon Musk invested $6.3 million, resulting in him to be the CEO of Tesla. Tesla’s original goal was to "Build a sports car. Use that money to build an affordable car. Use that money to build an even more affordable car. While doing the above, also provide zero-emission electric power generation options”. During this time, it was near impossible to enter the vehicle manufacturing market as all the large manufacturers were far too dominant for newer companies to compete with.
Elon Musk however, decided to move against this gigantic obstacle and started his journey with Tesla. The first model to be designed was the Tesla Roadster which was released on 2008. It had a range of 393 km and 2450 models were sold between 2008 and 2012. Model S was then released on 2012, followed by model X in 2015, model 3 on 2016, and model Y on 2019. The production for model S, model X and model Y are still on going with the release of Roadster and Cybertruck yet to be released.
As for their achievements, Tesla model S was the best selling electric car for 2015 and 2016. Tesla model 3 became the best selling electric car in 2018 and 2019. The salient model of Tesla is the yet to be released, Tesla Roadster 2.0, which is set to be released in 2022. It is expected to have a 0 to 100km/h acceleration of 2.1 seconds, a top speed over 400km/h and a range of 1000 km. This is a feat that has not been accomplished yet and it will be remembered as a key milestone achieved by humans. This proves that electric vehicles can outperform gas vehicles which was Elon Musk's vision to begin with.
