Sri Lanka is a third-world developing country that mainly relies on the agricultural field for its development. Next to that, Tourism is taking the reason for great economic contribution via the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) & Gross National Product (GNP). The pandemic situation that creates a worldwide problem change the way of usage and importance of the usage of the network. The importance of mobile networks for virtual learning, work from home (WFH), and other purposes are increasing its demand day by day. The government also is in the struggle for providing this infrastructure development within a short period. Initially, the Sri Lankan government is building the National fiber grid network over 45,000 km under the inspection of Sri Lanka Telecom private limited.

Sri Lanka has shown a very fierce growth in mobile broadband infiltration over the past six years, because of online video usage, increasing social media users, and the low cost of LTE – enabled smartphones. Since Sri Lanka is a country of large population density compare to other large area countries, the mobile network providers could be able to provide a decent coverage with less number of channels, also supports the development of mobile broadband services.

Currently, most of the people in Sri Lanka are using 4G – technology and 4G – technology-based devices. 5G is the fifth-generation mobile network which is based on a new global wireless standard after the 4G- network. 5G networks are designed to connect machines, objects, and devices virtually together. The 5G devices which are connected via the wireless also could able to provide a high transferring speed per second. Data speed, mightily reliability, huge network capacity, high performance, and improved efficiency empower new user experiences. At these present times, 5G technology is the most valuable part of the global economy. According to the “Qualcomm.com” article, 5G creates 22.8 million new jobs globally and 13.1 trillion dollars of global economic outputs. Which means 5G network will be get into each and every sector that may be environment or education. This job bank is going to increase the economic need of stake holders also.

In Sri Lanka, the number of mobile users and mobile broadband customers are increased while fixed broadband users are remain very low. Because of this 5G technology is more suitable for Sri Lanka. This transition change could able to connect the each and every cities of Sri Lanka and may increase the level of communication to another dimension. This also could able to produce the wireless fidelity (WiFi) to all places like other countries also. Very strong growth is predicted about the mobile users over the next five years at least by the research of Sri Lanka Telecoms Mobile and Broadband Statistics and analyses. The Sri Lankan mobile service market is now preparing to move the 4G network to the 5G mobile network service. Already the service providers conducted the pre-commercial trials during 2019.

The 5G technology transformation of Sri Lanka will increase the users, decrease employment and it will help to increase the economic output. So, the 5G technology will help to empower Sri Lanka in the future.
