Today we need to talk more about the internet connection and its services than ever before. Currently, many countries in the world are a thousand times ahead of Sri Lanka in terms of technology. Digitization and fast internet connections are essential factors in advancing Sri Lanka in terms of technology. The majority of people in Sri Lanka are unaware of internet connections and information and communication technology. In view of the above, empowering Sri Lanka with 5G can be pointed out as a national interest. Therefore, it is better to go beyond the existing 4G technology to develop Sri Lanka.
The fifth-generation 5G was created by the step-by-step advancement of 2G, 3G and 4G in wireless communication network technology. Using this 5G technology, data can be exchanged at top speeds within a millisecond. Therefore, the value of 5G technology is enormous and useful for many kinds of industries and smart life. When using this 5G technology, lagging and get stuck situations are not occurring as many people experience when accessing the internet, websites and its service at the same time because 5G technology operates in a high-frequency range. The 5G technology also eliminates the congestion of connecting several devices simultaneously in the network. In a developing country like Sri Lanka, 5G technology is to be costly to be empowered. This technology has introduced to Sri Lanka by private companies and is based on profit motives. But all countries with less technology than Sri Lanka such as Bangladesh and Nepal provide data and internet facilities at very low cost. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the government of Sri Lanka to provide this 5G technology to the people at a low cost.
Sri Lanka can revolutionize the economy and society by empowering with 5G technology because robotics, ‘’digital twin‘’ technology, holographic technology, ‘’3600 video calling‘’ technology, automobile technology, engineering fields can be developed greatly. New technological tools and ideas can be exchanged with other countries. 5G technology allows you the opportunity to watch the games, cricket matches or sports events being played in another country instantly. It is a novel experience than watching a game now, you can watch every moment of action with no time delay. A doctor in another country can perform surgeries on patients using robotics technology. Today many people who go abroad for medical treatments and surgeries can get the necessary medical facilities to them in Sri Lanka through this 5G technology. Using robotics, even such risky surgeries can be successfully performed by a remote doctor watching the patient via video technology and operating the robot because there is no time delay with this 5G technology. It can also improve education in Sri Lanka and provide an opportunity for young people who cannot enter a university to study at home. This will increase the literacy rate in the country and reduce unemployment.
Also, by empowering Sri Lanka with this 5G technology, the internet of things technology can be further enhanced therefore allows you to activate a variety of electronic devices that can be controlled from your mobile phone. For examples, this 5G technology has the speed to activate home appliances, close and open the door, turn on and turn off the light bulb and activate many numbers of the device at one using your mobile phone or laptop. This 5G technology can make great strides in electronics, artificial intelligence, computer science, network engineering, information and communication technology etc. 5G technology is not available for electronic devices, computers, laptops, smart mobile phones which are used now and all future technological devices are expected to be equipped with 5G. Apple and Huawei which are phone and electronic devices manufacturers have already launched 5G smart mobile phone devices in the market. This 5G technology provides an opportunity to bring the universe closer together socially, no matter how remote the globe. When empowering Sri Lanka with 5G, this amalgamation of the technological world and cyberspace brings about a smart renaissance in Sri Lanka.
