Modern farming technology is used to improve the wide types of production practices employed by farmers. It makes use of hybrid seeds of selected variety of a single crop, technologically advanced equipment and lots of energy subsidies in the form of irrigation water, fertilizers and pesticides. Major technology innovations in space have focused around areas such as indoor vertical farming, automation and robotic s, livestock technology, modern greenhouse practices, precision agriculture and artificial intelligence, and blockchain.
Indoor Vertical Farming
Vertical farming is the practice of producing food on vertically inclined surfaces. Using Controlled Environment Agriculture technology, this modern idea uses indoor farming techniques. The artificial control of temperature, light, humidity, and gases makes producing foods and medicine indoor possible. Firstly, the primary goal of vertical farming is producing more foods per square meter. Secondly, a perfect combination of natural and artificial lights is used to maintain the perfect light level in the room. Thirdly, instead of soil, aeroponic , aquaponic or hydroponic growing mediums are used. Having greater output from a small cultivation area is an advantage of vertical farming.
Farm Automation
Farm automation, often associated with “smart farming”, is technology that makes farms more efficient and automates the crop or livestock production cycle. The primary goal of farm automation technology is to cover easier, mundane tasks. Farm automation technology addresses major issues like a rising global population, farm labor shortages, and changing consumer preferences. Farm automation increasing number of companies are working on robotics innovation to develop drones, autonomous tractors, robotic harvesters, automatic watering, and seeding robots.
Livestock Farming Technology
Livestock technology can improve the productivity capacity, welfare, or management of animals and livestock. Beef cattle are generally the most profitable and easiest livestock to raise for profit. Beef cattle simply require good pasture, supplemental hay during the winter, fresh water, vaccinations and plenty of room to roam. You can buy calves from dairy farms inexpensively to start raising beef cattle. There are different types of livestock farming systems that are differentiated by the production processes that take place in each of them. They are, Intensive Livestock Farming, Semi-intensive Livestock Farming, Extensive Livestock Farming, Nomadic Livestock Farming, Transhumant Livestock Farming, Organic Livestock Farming.
Modern greenhouse
The modern greenhouse is usually a glass or plastic-enclosed framed structure that is used for the production of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and any other plants that require special conditions of temperature. The purpose of a greenhouse is to shield crops from excess cold or heat and unwanted pests. A greenhouse makes it possible to grow certain types of crop s year round, and fruits, tobacco plants, vegetables, and flowers are what a greenhouse most commonly grows. Modern greenhouses are becoming increasingly tech-heavy, using LED lights and automated control systems to perfectly tailor the growing environment.
Artificial Intelligence
Using the machine learning algorithms in connection with images captured by satellites and drones, Artificial Intelligence enabled technologies predict weather conditions, analyze crop sustainability and evaluate farms for the presence of diseases or pests and poor plant nutrition on farms with data like temperature, precipitation. Various hi-tech computer based systems are designed to determine various important parameters like weed detection, yield detection and crop quality and many other techniques.
If modern agriculture is applied widely in the near future, millions of farmers will be able to benefit from the acquisition of real-time farm information. It is difficult to predict the future of technology in agriculture but there are many promising trends and pilot projects.
